Basement Rental

For the owner of this house, the most attractive part of her new place was the basement. She wanted to renovate the basement and turn it into a small rental apartment for extra income. This is an old house located in downtown Toronto. Needless to say, once we gutted the basement there were a few surprises, one of which is that the entire house was not properly adhering to the building code. Not only did we properly replaced the old structure, but were also able to add few extra inches to the basement ceiling height!  In the end we were able to create a bachelor apartment with a separate entrance, a washer and dryer hidden seamlessly inside the wall structure, a bathroom with a large shower, a kitchenet, dining and sleeping areas, and a small storage.  I was able to introduce smart design solutions to invite more natural light which insured the space is well led with layers of lighting fixtures to properly address the needs of each area. Several neat design choices on the finish helped visually enlarged the space. I also found interesting solutions to separate each area in this cozy apartment.

The basement apartment is now never vacant!
